Choices and Forgiveness

·

I watched the movie “Vice” last night. This is the movie about Dick Cheney made by Adam McKay. Approaching it with balance, it was very good. Please do not apply a label to me regarding politics … or polytricks as my Rasta brothers say. I am an independent in the most personal of ways. I am not on any side and no side seems to represent me. In fact, I was a class or two away from being a political science minor for one of my degrees. I am known to register as one party to get a mail-in ballot to vote out any extremists in the primaries and then pick up the other party’s ballot on election day to vote for whomever I want to.

This movie was very good in exposing how one person’s intentions for their own power and desires can impact the whole world. It showed how one can covertly organize a group to do this and under a veil, manipulate a population. This is where we will brand a whole country or even a single person as bad. A whole country may be strong armed or manipulated without their knowing.

I have to remember that there is no “bad” country. There are no “bad” people. How can we be “bad” if we have the Spirit of God in us as our soul. We are all in our own choice everyday. We have to live in this world and embrace others and allow for their choice. An obvious situation like this is Germany in the Nazi heyday. The country or the people weren’t bad … just a few men in comparison were fully aware of what they were doing and chose atrocious actions to hurt so many people for their own benefit. Well aren’t they bad? It is so easy to judge and brand … they had the Spirit of God inside them and had a True Divine Self and a small self. They were completely out of touch with their True Self and sided with the gross power of the small self. Their actions were extremely bad. We can apply that to ourselves and others. We all make bad choices. Granted, there is this amazing thing called Karma and we all have to account for our choices whether it is now in this lifetime as action produces reaction or in the other realm where our Spirit resides until we come and do this again.

We are here to sit with the choices we make whether that is our personal choices or the choices of others. These are the obstacles and opportunities for our growth. I believe we signed up for what we encounter before we incarnate here as who we are now with the name we have in this lifetime. We are not victims. We are in choice every moment. We have the ability to decide what we want to do right now. Never are we victims. Forgiveness supersedes victimhood. Forgiveness is for ourselves. We do not have to carry that burden around anymore. It is NOT our identity unless we choose for that to be. Living in guilt or shame or living as a victim is our choice. Forgiveness is for ourselves. Don Miguel Ruiz once wrote something that helped me understand. It said our victimhood is like us carrying a corpse around with us. It stinks so badly and corpses are heavy and unbalanced. Nobody wants us to carry it. It affects everyone we encounter. They smell it and are disgusted to see and it’s repelling. People get sick of those corpses you carry. Aren’t you tired of the weight of them? Aren’t you tired of smelling like them? Let go! Of course, it takes work to consciously release those grudges and anger. It’s your ego and small self that is offended by others. How dare they do that to me? It could be as small as someone pulling in front of you while driving and you have to brake a little .. even if it wasn’t so dangerous. It could be as atrocious as being assaulted by another human in whatever way you can imagine this moment. In a way, a very bad assault where you did not have control can make you a victim, but it is up to you to live in your victimhood or not .. to live in that identity or not .. to eventually offend others with the stench of your corpse. It is essentially your ego that was at play with being smaller than it wants to be. You have the choice and the opportunity for growth to let go of this. Remember, when you practice, it gets easier and you become more skillful. You can actually accomplish and win if you will. You soon can be a student with your practice and a coach with your skill at doing something. We are here to achieve our purposes and they are different for everyone. We are here with specific purposes to achieve and grow and become skillful masters so the next time we can move on to other purposes to become more like Christ.

We are here to allow others to be in their choice whether we agree with them or not … to deal with the outcomes of our choices and other’s choices … to deal with being a “victim” of a government or individual’s choices we had no power to thwart. We are here to learn forgiveness. When we can acknowledge our wrongs and forgive ourselves, we can forgive others. I have hurt people and there are those that will feel that I victimized them. I have grown and applied these things I am saying, but I am going to stumble unknowingly and have to practice. I am going to be on the other end and have to practice forgiveness of myself and others. I am under construction to be like Christ or Buddha or whomever has achieved Perfection. I vow to practice when it is made known to me that my ego and small self is at play as a victim or offender. I desire to not be either. My intention is to follow the Righteous Path. I want to edify God, myself and others with Divine Love.
